I’d like to share with you a some lyrics and a song from a dear friend of Shalom House, Zack Jackson. Zack shared this at an open-mic event I attended recently.
Muddy Hands
A child caught with muddy hands
A termite mound with bigger plans
We stormed the beach and saved the land
But it turns out it was only sand
Wet with blood from other gods
We rallied all our wearied squads
With tired eyes and patient nods
We asked the Lord for better odds
Peace, be still
Weve been this way before
Peace, be still
Well go this way again
The Son of God stood up and said
Love will carve the path ahead
So we tied him up and shot him dead
And put his name on our guns instead
If you’d like to listen to a recording of the song, you can do so here.

in regards to that last line: Bible verses on combat rifles
i could’t believe that news story when i first read it. bible verses on guns? that’s nuts.
i actually wrote that last line after reading about how rumsfeld put bible verses on the cover pages for all the briefs about the war. at the time it seemed that putting jesus’ name on a gun was so ludicrous that it would work well as a metaphor, but there they had to go and actually do it. it’s a crazy place we live.
