Resources
Peace and Justice Network of the Mennonite Church USA
This site offers a lot of great resources about peace issues.
National War Tax Resistance Coordinating Committee
Recently some of us have committed ourselves to war tax resistance and creating opportunities to study and discuss the issue. A group of us from Shalom House and our church Circle of Hope, have spent time together learning and discerning how to act. Some of us are withholding our federal incomes taxes, others are paying our taxes and sending along a letter of protest, others are living below the taxable level, some are advocating for the National Peace Tax Fund, others continue to learn, ask questions, and consider the different ways of responding.
National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund
We fully support U.S. federal legislation that would enable conscientious objectors to war to have their federal income taxes directed to a special fund for peaceful (non-military) purposes. Check out this peace tax fund documentary.
School of the Americas Watch
Since 1990, this group has dedicated itself to close down to the School of the Americas (aka the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation), based in Fort Benning, Georgia. Shalom House went to the annual protest vigil in November 2007.
